MARCH 2015 to Present
Welcome to the Pottery Farm!

My first studio space began in a basement and moved throughout parts of our home in the heart of West Hartford. Shrouded in the shade of neighboring houses and trees, I dreamt of sitting at my wheel and having a horizon view. But as much as we love the Berkshires and northwestern parts of CT, we really  LOVE the West Hartford area. Our friends, work and clientele are here. So we found the next best thing; an acre of land overlooking a meadow of unfarmed farm land, the Heubline Tower in Simsbury with the setting sun behind it every day and space for a large pottery studio just off the end of Mountain Road in Bloomfield on Burr.

Since then I expanded my studio to include 4 pottery wheels and invited former students to share the space as part of a mentorship. It's wonderful to share the creative environment and I have the rolling hills horizon view I always dreamt of. Visitors are welcome by appointment or on special events such as Open Studios Hartford.

January 2014 to 2015
Teacher

In January of 2014 I was invited to teach "Introduction to Pottery on the Wheel" at the West Hartford Art League and it became an on-going commitment that I enjoyed very much. Due to my busy schedule with my own business, I enlisted the help of fellow Potters, Charlene Li and Anne Lennon to co-teach the class and since then I left the art league to pursue the development of my own studio.

FULL TIME POTTER!

Temporarily I had the opportunity to take a part-time job at the DesignSourceCT which is a resource showroom for designers, decorators and architects. All of my work experience came together here as I was the general assistant to all staff in the showroom. One day I'm hanging art, the next I was handling fabulous fabrics and filing samples. Another day I would be rearranging the furniture in the showroom. It was a wonderful environment filled with inspiration. DSCT has also hosted my pottery. I was thrilled to be a part of this high-end design environment!

The Long-ish story...

For over twenty years I have longed to work in clay and in October 2008 I met my pottery guru, John Macomber, of Greenleaf Pottery in South Windsor CT. I have been in love with clay ever since. My focus of the moment; lidded vessels that represent living things from nature.  If YOU live in CT and have an interest in learning pottery I highly recommend that you start with John at Greenleaf. He
has over 30 years of experience and he'll help you take it wherever you want to go. This studio / classroom setting is filled with wonderful people. Potters
tend to be good kind folk and we inspire each other when we create together.

In June 2011, I left my job as a non-profit Executive Director in Heritage and Park preservation at Elizabeth Park in Hartford to pursue my love for making pots. Also I had been dreaming of a summer to "potter around" which means to move aimlessly about. But my intention is a little more structured than that and I have grand plans. I
recently graduated from Basement and garage potter to
occupying a prime studio space filled with light. What was formerly the "puppy / family / TV / sun"- room is
now my brilliant studio!

The trademark name, D.Wilson~Art, is based on my name David Davis Wilson. My goal is to always be a crafter of many things in many mediums, designing spaces and to help promote other artists and artisan's work...eventually in my own retail design store.
